CHIEFTAIN SARAH INVITES YOU TO 63RD ANNUAL O’MALLEY CLAN GATHERING IN 2017 Sarah was appointed O’Malley Clan Chieftain in 2016, at a ceremony in Limerick led by Clan Guardian Chief Ellen and, outgoing Chieftain Denis in the presence of many past Chieftains and Clan members. Being the daughter and granddaughter of past Chieftain and Guardian Chieftains, Ann and Dr Conor, Sarah has been steeped in the history of O’Malleys and of The Clan Association. Sarah is an Architect based in Galway, where she lives and works in private practice with her husband Patrick McCabe and family. Sarah invites all O’Malleys, their family and friends, to join her in celebrating and experiencing the traditions of The Clan Association in Galway and Claregalway at the 63rd Annual Clan Rally during the last weekend in June 2017 (23rd-25th) Walk through any town in Galway and hear the music coming out of the pubs and bars and onto the streets. See art and culture being celebrated and feted through festivals and programmes every month of the year. Appreciate the history of the medieval city and county towns, and experience the vibrancy that is Galway today. We will visit sites of cultural importance in East Galway, view the Evie Hone windows in Loughrea and experience the mystical and atmospheric Thoor Ballylee one time home to Ireland most significant poet, WB Yeats. A medieval banquet in the historic and magical surrounds of the magnificent Claregalway Castle will be an event not to be missed. Sunday’s annual Clan Day Out will include tours of the Castle and of the medieval Claregalway Abbey, where our annual Clan Service will be held. Enjoy a fun filled day in Claregalway Castle and grounds with BBQ, music, genealogy and family friendly activities. The choice of Claregalway as the location for the Annual Gathering is an important choice, as it was one of the last seats of the Gaelic Irish chieftains in the Middle Ages. It is a beautifully restored 15th Century Anglo-Norman tower house situated just 10km from Galway City. We are deeply grateful to Claregalway Castle for so graciously hosting this very special event.
Long before it became popular to take an interest in the diaspora, the O’Malleys were encouraging contact, fostering links, and attracting members to come to Ireland for the Annual Clan Rally. So whether you live in Galway, Ireland, Europe, United States, Australia, New Zealand or elsewhere we look forward to seeing you in Galway in June 2017. Sarah Kelly Ó Máille Abú
